prayer

I pray that-
 you learn to live:
 and learn to let go;
 I hope that your heart
 does not cloud your judgement,
 and that you learn
 freedom has limits:
  and that true beauty is in the
 kindness in your eyes,
 the curve of your smile;
 I hope your feet find the road you are meant to walk;
  and that your heart finds the stories you are meant to finish.

assurance

I found my weaknesses while I was
 looking for my strengths;
 I found pain when I was looking for joy;
 and that's when I learnt that you will
 never truly know strength unless you've been weak;
 you will never know  joy until you've felt pain.

sunflower~

sunflower

 like the sunflower;
 with her crown turned towards the sun,
 her soul anchored in strength
 feeding on eternal light;
her scepter pointed to the sky.

A/N: This one is full of metaphors :) I hope this gets to you <3

if

If the whole world was blind, who would you impress?
~Boonaa Mohammed

if

 if the world was blind
 would you still paint pictures of love?
 if the world was deaf;
would you still sing of hope?

a single shard

For Ziona

a single shard

 when will you realise
 that even broken shards of pottery,
 unfinished verses of poetry,
 unsung songs and
 unread stories
 are reminiscent of the potter,
 the poet,
 the composer and
 the author
 of your faith?

mother

my mother

 my mother is behind the woman in me
 she is in the kindness of my heart
 but also in the fire burning in my eyes;
 she in the gold fillings of my cracked soul,
 in the silver linings of my dark clouds.

quotes: part two

snippets of thoughts

~
 her mind was like the oceans
 unreachable depths and crashing waves
 buried treasure and sunken ships;
 sailing ships and swimming sharks,
 pretty pearls and pink coral
~
  buried in her mother's womb
 she will never see the beauty of life;
 because she never had one.
~
 she was a free spirit.
 in the rustling of the leaves;
 the crashing waves
 and the crackling flames.
 she was everywhere.
~

A/N: Do tell me what you like best <3

Hamster

 Hamster

Our dog did not live long enough to celebrate his first birthday. But the seven months that he lived were months of joy. He had fallen sick on several occasions before and always came back stronger, but this time it must have been too much to bear. After two days of dehydration, and extreme blood loss, he died on January 10, 2016. We believe he had an infection that eventually led to his untimely death. He was like no other dog and I doubt I will ever see a dog that lived like he did.

His name was Hammy, shortened from the word ‘Hamster’, because he looked like one. He was born in April 2015, and he came to us on May 30. He could hardly stand, on his weak little paws. The night he came home, he walked around the house like he owned it. That’s why I called him, ‘Prince Ham’ He preferred being outside, teetering around on his pink paws, chasing butterflies.

When we got back from school, he would stop whatever he was doing just to greet us, as if he hadn’t seen us for ages. He loved eating everything and anything. He would jump on our bed, run off with our clothes, and roll in piles of dried leaves. During my exams, he used to sit at my feet until I finished studying. He loved chasing pigeons, and watching children play.

He took life as a challenge, and faced the problems it threw at him with a positive outlook. He was the only living being who had seen me dance and play my guitar. He loved cuddling on my sweater and my mother’s sari. Every time the door bell rang, he used to run to the door. Now, the ring of the bell makes me cry.

I do not mind wearing the socks he damaged. The house is so quiet and lifeless and we miss his bark. The litany of lost things is endless.

He taught me there’s good in this world; you just have to learn to see it; He would implicitly trust people, no questions asked; He taught me love is stronger than any force on the earth. He taught me not to take life too seriously and to take the good things and make memories out of them; forget the bad things and learn from them.

The last three days of his life were the worst. He suffered so much. Looking at his almost lifeless body, I did everything he liked to elicit a response, but no, he was too far gone.

I cried for hours, and I’m crying as I’m writing this. I’m glad his suffering is over, because it was too much for his small frame to handle. I know he’s in heaven, because all dogs go to heaven.

Dear Hammy ,

Now that you’re in heaven, I’m glad you don’t have to suffer. I hope you find cats to chase, beans to eat, people to play with and sweaters to chew. I miss you, and I’m glad you were in our lives. Thank you for the memories.

I love you, forever.

Keren.

A/N: I wrote this early last year, and although it isn't my best piece of writing, the feelings are still strong. This was featured in The Hindu in School, and you can see it here.

she

she

 a child of the night,
 her rainbow blends into white starlight
 she was a North Star,
 in the tapestry of the sky.

Guide. Help. Smile and share your thoughts.
 Selfishness will eat away at your happiness.

Inspired by Viola Theron's Intricacies

mosaic

discarded, broken
 pieces of another whole,
 fixed and pieced together
 together beautiful, never alone.

A/N: I believe that everything that's happened to you
is a piece of who you are..and that's what truly makes you you.

 she smiled when the mist curled around her vision
 she smiled when the hail fell mercilessly
 she smiled when the hurricane tore her skin
 she smiled till the ice froze her smile.

stardust

Inspired by Amy,
I wrote this for three beautiful girls: Rush, Amy and Cam.
I hope you find your rainbows.

stardust

 nebula eyed, blue ombré girl
 wild hair with a daisy crown,
 a dreamer with a stardust soul
painted in bright, flaming hues.
 her colour is a rainbow on the canvas of life
 but there's a storm before a rainbow
 and silence before a storm.

~ You can do it. You will get through this.

effervescent

This is for Cam and Amy <3

effervescent

 her laughter filled the room,
 bubbly and full of life.
 her eyes were overflowing with mirth,
 green and the colour of fresh grass
 her words were soft and warm,
 like a woollen blanket on an autumn evening,
 they were hopeful and bright.
 her imagination was infinite,
 the galaxies in her head wrote themselves onto paper.
 elves and martens
 amok in a forest of dreams
 her hands were rough and calloused,
 but always moving.
 dusting, baking and drawing.
 her hands kneaded clay and dough,
 dusted furniture and cocoa,
 drew robins and house plans;
 she was effervescent;
 a girl of and with dreams.
 she spread joy and stardust,
 like bubbles on a summer afternoon,
 she was a fresh whiff of perfume,
 bursting with fragrance.

demure

When I wrote this, I thought of a very special Elven princess. You know who you are <3

                                                   demure

Her eyes are the softest of browns,
 laughing and sparkling in delight.
 they hold promise and patience,
 old books and lessons learnt,
 forgiven mistakes and fond memories.
 her hands are delicate and graceful,
 they hold words and dedication,
 strength and humility,
 wings of hope snake around her wrists,
 her faith in humanity; eternal.
 her feet dance across the room,
 her ankles wrapped in gossamer threads.
 swift and agile,
 tapping to the rhythm of her heart,
 she is: daisies and sunflowers,
 horses and wild strawberries,
 sunsets and tea,
 braided crowns and leather boots,
 cinnamon rolls and steamed apples,
 magic and stardust.

A/N: This was an experiment. Any comments on this?
